This paper describes the identification and syntheses of these compounds; the work described here has made material available for further studies that may lead to new uses for, and agricultural applications of, substances able to promote cell division in plants. Technical Abstract: Technical Abstract Mono- and bis 3-(hydroxypropanoyl) esters of long chain, unsaturated diols isolated and identified from two genera of the family Bruchidae, have been shown to be responsible for the mitogenic activity observed on pea pods resulting from oviposition by the pea weevil, Bruchis pisorum. The mitogenic compounds have been characterized and synthesized. |
