Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Biocontrol provides additional tools for management of plant diseases and weeds. Interactions of these biocontrol agents with insects can aid, deter or have no effect on control. This book chapter reviews interactions between biocontrol agents and insects including interactions of insects with biocontrol agents used against the weeds water hyacinth, coca, and seeds of velvetleaf, and against the plant pathogens Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Erwinia amylovora, Botrytis cineria and others. Interactions primarily include physical damage to weeds facilitating entry of biocontrol agents, and dissemination of biocontrol agents by insects. The effect of environment on these interactions is also discussed.
