Technical Abstract: Microorganisms, i.e., bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa can infect insects and cause disease which result in death of the insect. Scientists have conducted research and development activities such that some of these organisms are used as applied insecticides. As such they are referred to as microbial insecticides and the use of them to manage insects, is called microbial control. This Chapter describes life cycles of some of the economic insect pests of corn, damage they cause to corn and their susceptibility to microorganisms. Also, details are given on protocol to use a microorganism to manage the insect pests including, sampling for the pest, formulating the microbial, applying the microbial and assessing the insect/crop complex for efficacy.
