Our objective was to test F1 plans and controls to different temperature and photoperiod treatments for maintaining cms stability. Plants were grown in growth chambers where temperature, photoperiod, and light intensity were controlled. Plants remained in the growth chambers until pod set, and then were transferred to a glass house for further observation until maturity. Plants were evaluated for time of anthesis after photoperiod induction (13 hrs light/11 hrs dark) and for fertility/sterility. Results from anther squashes and pod set showed that sterility of the cms line was stable under all environmental conditions tested, while fertility-restored control plants remained fertile. |
