Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This report summarizes research across the world in 1999 that placed additional markers, genes, and quantitative trait loci (QTLs) on chromosome 7H of barley. Markers placed on the map include additional telomere markers for the end of the short arm, two new types of PCR-based markers, amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers, and resistance gene homologs. Several reports of conversion of AFLP and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers to PCR-based markers were published. Genes involved in mugineic acid biosynthesis and resistance to the spot form of net blotch were located on chromosome 7H. QTLs also were located for partial resistance to leaf rust, resistance to stripe rust, and for yield-determining physiological traits. Additional morphological markers were placed on the molecular linkage map, and translocation breakpoints of chromosome 7H were located on an RFLP linkage map.
