Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Initial research performed by various workers has identified several rice lines with low to moderate levels of resistance to the RWW. The lines used in this study include the varieties Mars and Cypress as susceptible checks and four lines (321264,321278, 1711, 97HB51) as resistant experimental lines. A field host-choice study was performed to determine the impact of resistance on population dynamics of RWW larvae in order to evaluate the potential utility of host plant resistance as a management strategy against the RWW. Significant differences in resistance between varieties (as indicated by larval counts) were found. Lines 321264 and 321278 had the lowest RWW densities.
