Interpretive Summary: Since 1984, ARS scientists at the U.S. Water Conservation Laboratory (WCL) in Arizona have been conducting large-scale multi-disciplinary remote sensing experiments at Arizona field sites, resulting in the accumulation of an exceptional data set of 315 images and 709 files of associated ground measurements. This unique data set was essentially inaccessible because files were stored on outdated media, located in a variety of locations throughout the state, and archived without a standard naming convention. To resolve this, the WCL Image and Ground Data Archive was produced in 1999 (WIGDA99) to provide a cental data archive with standardized file names on a reliable medium (that is, CD ROM). The WIGDA99 computer data base contains descriptions of all images and ground data and allows users to locate data according to specified criteria and to determine easily which images are related to which ground data files, and vice-versa. This work will facilitate use of this extensive data set by scientists at university and government laboratories for research in long-term change detection, temporal crop and soil studies, and agricultural and rangeland management.

Technical Abstract: The Water Conservation Laboratory Image and Ground Data Archive produced in 1999 (WIGDA99) is a computer database containing 315 entries for spectral images and 709 entries for associated ground data files. The database contains metadata regarding the images and ground data and allows the user to locate data according to user-specified criteria and to determine easily which images are related to which ground data files, and vice-versa. This report provides background information on the collection and archiving of this data set, and contact information for obtaining copies of the image and data files.
