Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 11/20/1999 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (NCAUR), formerly known as the Northern Regional Research Laboratory (NRRL), is a research laboratory in the Midwest Area of the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. NCAUR invents new uses of agricultural commodities for industrial and food products, develops new technology to improve environmental quality, and provides technical support to Federal regulatory and action agencies. Organized into 10 research units, the Center maintains a mixed portfolio of interdisciplinary science covering the fundamental to applied research continuum. This laboratory has a long history of research aimed at assuring the safety of the food supply with regard to mycotoxins associated with crops grown by the US. At the present time, there are five major mycotoxin related research projects funded by the ARS National Research Program on Food Safety underway at NCAUR. Two of these projects are conducted by the Bioactive Agents Research (BAR) Management Unit. Dr. M. R. McGuire is the Research Leader of BAR. Three projects are conducted by Mycotoxin Research (MTX) Management Unit. Mr. R. D. Plattner is the Research Leader of MTX. The objectives and focus of these five projects, which involve approximately 15 research scientists and support staff, will be described. |
