The tensile properties were found to be independent of the filler content above approximately 30 wt%. The properties become independent of the starch fraction due to a change in the failure mechanism. This change was determined from a post-mortem analysis of fracture surfaces and by monitoring the acoustic emissions in-situ. A model which reflects these changes has been used to describe the tensile strength at different loading fractions. This research was conducted under CRADA number 58-3K95-8-633 between Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and Biotechnology Research Development Corporation (BRDC). |
