Technical Abstract: Weather station networks can greatly assist in irrigation scheduling and are extensively used in many parts of the U.S. in irrigated agriculture. This paper discusses the importance of irrigated agriculture both globally, nationally, and locally. Irrigation scheduling information can further enhance the conservation of water which is especially important in the Texas High Plains. The North Plains PET (potential evapotranspiration) network was described and examples of the data products provided. The impact of the NP-PET network was discussed along with difficulties encountered.
