The second part of the paper deals with possible breeding goals for the future: 1) possible uses of molecular biology tools, 2) public private breeding responsibilities 3) alternatives to pesticide use, 4) dietary benefits of lettuce, 6) value-added products, and 7) lettuce as a research organism.
