Saccharothrix waywayandensis is more closely related to Lentzea albidocapillata, and Saccharothrix cryophilis more closely related to Streptoalloteichus hindustanus than to the other Saccharothrix species. Saccharothrix aerocolonigenes NRRL B-3298 and Saccharothrix flava NRRL B-16131 form a lineage distinct from Saccharothrix sensu strictu which is supported by a bootstrap value of 80% in neighbor-joining analysis. Members of this lineage can be distinguished chemotaxonomically from Saccharothrix and Lentzea by the presence of phosphatidylethanolamine with 2-hydroxy-fatty acids. It is proposed that a new genus be described for these species and to be named Lechevaliera in honor of Hubert and Mary Lechevalier, eminent microbiologists who have contributed significantly to the field of actinomycete biology and taxonomy. The type species of Lechevaliera is designated as Lechevaliera aerocolonigenes comb. nov. NRRL B-3298. Saccharothrix flava is transferred to the new genus as Lechevaliera flava comb. nov. |
