Citation: Yao, J., Kula, R.R., Wharton, R.A., Chen, J. 2015. Four new species of Tanycarpa (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Alysiinae) from the Palaearctic Region and new records of species from China. Zootaxa. 3957:169-187.

Interpretive Summary: Parasitic wasps attack crop, forest, and horticultural pests that cause billions of dollars of damage to agricultural commodities and natural resources annually. The parasitic wasps treated in this paper attack fly larvae that function as decomposers in ecosystems. Increased knowledge of these wasps can help determine how they impact fly populations and ultimately how wasp-fly interactions affect ecosystem function. Four species from China new to science are described, and a key to 20 species from Asia and Europe is provided. One previously described species is reported from China for the first time, and new distribution records within China are reported for three species. This paper will be useful to scientists conducting research on wasps parasitic on flies in Asia and Europe, particularly those discerning evolutionary relationships and the role of wasps in regulating fly populations.

Technical Abstract: Four new species, Tanycarpa gymnonotum Yao sp. n., Tanycarpa similis Yao sp. n., Tanycarpa areolata Yao sp. n., and Tanycarpa lineata Yao sp. n., are described from the Palaearctic Region of China, and Tanycarpa chors Belokobylskij is newly recorded from China. Significant range extensions are given for Tanycarpa bicolor (Nees von Esenbeck), Tanycarpa gracilicornis (Nees von Esenbeck), and Tanycarpa mitis Stelfox. A key to the Palaearctic species of Tanycarpa is provided. Type specimens for each new species are deposited in Beneficial Insects Institute, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fuzhou, China.
