Interpretive Summary: Foods and beverages obtained from restaurants contribute substantially to the American diet. The Food Surveys Research Group of the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center has analyzed intakes of food and beverages obtained from restaurants and released 12 additional summary data tables. Using dietary data from the What We Eat in America (WWEIA), National and Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2012, Tables 45-56 summarize nutrient intakes from full service restaurants, quick service restaurants, and all restaurants. Estimated intakes are reported by age/gender, race/ethnicity, and income. Data tables summarizing dietary intakes from restaurants can readily be used by government groups, nutrition researchers, and the general public. The availability and enhanced accessibility of these new tables are a benefit to users in need of current population-level information on nutrient intakes of Americans. All tables are available on the FSRG Web site: www.ars.usda.gov/nea/bhnrc/fsrg.

Technical Abstract: The Food Surveys Research Group of the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center has analyzed nutrient intakes from foods and beverages consumed from restaurants and released 12 additional summary data tables. Using dietary data from the What We Eat in America (WWEIA), National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2012, Tables 45-56 provide population estimates for percent reporting, mean amounts and percent of selected nutrients obtained from full service restaurants, quick service restaurants, and all restaurants. Estimated means and standard errors are provided for 35 nutrients by age/gender as well as four race/ethnicity groups, family income in dollars, and as a percent of poverty threshold. Mean intakes are reported for all individuals and for both restaurant consumers and non-consumers. In WWEIA, NHANES, dietary intakes are collected using the USDA 5-step Automated Multiple-Pass Method. Each year data are collected from a nationally representative sample of 5,000 individuals and released at 2-year intervals. All tables are available on the FSRG Web site: www.ars.usda.gov/nea/bhnrc/fsrg.
