Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This article highlights research by the USDA-ARS Greenhouse Production Research Group (GPRG). It provides an overview of the current research projects of the Application Technology Research Unit being conducted by the Agricultural Engineering Research Group, the Horticultural Insects Research Group, and the Greenhouse Production Research Group. The GPRG is currently investigating the role of silicon in reducing or delaying the effects of abiotic (environmental) and biotic (pathogen) stress, evaluating new substrate amendments for their potential to provide nutrients or adjust pH, evaluating improved methods to control of weeds in container production, developing energy-efficient greenhouse production methods, and continuing to develop our decision-support software called Virtual Grower.
