Location: Emerging Pests and Pathogens Research
Project Number: 8062-22000-022-011-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jul 1, 2016
End Date: Jun 30, 2021
Objective:
1. Determine the effectiveness of selected potato clones and varieties in suppressing G. rostochiensis Ro2 in the field.
2. Determine the resistance of potato clones and varieties to G. rostochiensis pathotypes.
3. Characterize nematode effector proteins and their host targets contributing to plant parasitism.
Approach:
1. Resistant potato clones and varieties will be planted in field plots on a quarantine research farm and nematode soil densities will be determined before planting and after crop harvest.
2. Greenhouse bioassays will be conducted to determine the resistance of potato breeding clones and varieties to G. rostochiensis Ro1 and Ro2.
3. Molecular biology and functional genomics approaches will be used to elucidate the function of effector proteins and their interacting host proteins in parasitism.
