Objective:
The objective of this cooperative agreement is to compare efficiencies of various methods of evaluating rangeland condition with a focus on meeting sage-grouse habitat requirements.
Approach:
A variety of techniques have been used to evaluate sagebrush rangelands, but no one approach is universally accepted, and there is great demand for efficient and defensible techniques. We propose to use the 16,000 acre USDA-ARS Northern Great Basin Experimental Range as a testing ground for the broad-scale approach currently used by Soil and Water Conservation Districts in eastern Oregon, and more intensive plot sampling typically used by research scientists.
