Location: Genetic Improvement for Fruits & Vegetables Laboratory
Project Number: 8042-21000-283-003-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 1, 2015
End Date: Mar 31, 2020
Objective:
To 1) Identify genomic regions associated with stable high specific gravity; 2) Introgress stable high specific gravity trait to commercial chip and russet potato selections.
Approach:
A diploid hybrid potato population segregating for high specific gravity will be phenotyped in three locations. Bulked segregant analysis and genotyping-by-sequencing based single nucleotide polymorphism marker approach will be utilized to identify genotypic regions associated with high specific gravity. A linkage map will be constructed and quantitative trait loci mapping will be carried out to identify QTL associated with high specific gravity. Stable high specific gravity clones will be used as parents to introgress this trait into commercial varieties.
