Research Project: Penn State Northeast Climate Hub Risk Assessment and Capacity Building

Location: Pasture Systems & Watershed Management Research

Project Number: 8070-66000-001-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2014
End Date: Jun 30, 2019

Objective:
Develop and deliver science-based, region-specific information and technologies to agricultural and natural resource managers that enable climate-smart decision-making and provide assistance to enable land managers to implement those decisions.

Approach:
This initial collaboration between the Northeast Regional Climate Hub and The Pennsylvania State University will focus on three areas: 1) Capacity discovery, survey of who is doing what on climate change research and extension; 2) Risk Assessment, determine perceived risks of climate change. Because much information already exists, the initial effort will be to synthesize existing state climate risk assessments. This will also involve Stakeholder outreach, including organizing and attending producer group meetings throughout the Northeast to learn about their needs and possible relevant climate adaptation solutions, and communicating results to hub leadership; 3) Information sharing, establish networks and lines of communications between Hub leadership and stakeholders and partners, including assisting with website development and content provision.
