Project Number: 6066-22320-008-09
Start Date: Jun 01, 2014
End Date: Dec 25, 2014
The purpose of this project is to provide constructs for use in demonstrating the lethal effect of silencing the Guanine Nucleotide-Binding Proteins (SiGNBP) gene on red imported fire ants. Double stranded Riboneucleic acid (dsRNA) constructs of SiGNBP will be designed based on the sequence of the messenger Riboneucleic acid (mRNA) of siGNBP (GenBank Accession Number: HM130685). At the Cooperator's facility, the dsRNA constructs of SiGNBP will be synthesized and provided to the Biological Control of Pests research Unit, ARS-USDA and Syngenta Laboratory in Vero Beach for evaluation of their toxicity. The toxicity of dsRNAs to ant colonies from two locations in Florida and Mississippi will be determined by the Biological Control of Pests Research Unit, ARS-USDA and by Syngenta Laboratory in Vero Beach.
