Research Project: Collaborative Research: Aerosol Formation from Agricultural Volatile Organic Compounds-CFDA #47.05

Location: Food Animal Environmental Systems Research

Project Number: 5040-12630-006-023-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2015
End Date: Jun 30, 2019

Objective:
To characterize the emissions and fate of reduced nitrogen and reduced sulfur compounds from animal waste management processes, their importance to aerosol formation, and potential impact on climate.

Approach:
A combination of laboratory and field experiments to determine which amines and sulfur compounds are important emissions from different waste management processes and which, if any, nitrogen and sulfur compounds are critical to secondary atmospheric reactions and aerosol formation. Laboratory experiments are planned at the environmental chamber facility in Riverside, California, and field experiments are planned to gather baseline emissions information from dairy, swine, and poultry operations.
