Research Project: Development and Evaluation of a Collapsible House Fly Trap Based on Existing Designs with an Attractant System Based on Available Attractants

Location: Mosquito and Fly Research

Project Number: 6036-32000-049-006-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 15, 2015
End Date: Jul 14, 2019

Objective:
Develop an efficient and portable trap for house flies using available traps and attractants and the slow-release delivery system patented by the cooperator.

Approach:
Trap and bait will be selected jointly by ARS and the Cooperator. Cooperator will formulate commercial baits so they can be used by the patented delivery system and will redesign a selected commercial trap so it is light-weight and collapsible. ARS will evaluate trap design and bait formulations for efficacy under semi-laboratory and field conditions.
