Research Project: USWBSI Integrated Management of FHB on Delaware Wheat

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00053-003-096-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jun 1, 2014
End Date: May 31, 2019

Objective:
Evaluate the effects of cultivar resistance and timing of Prosaro® on FHB severity and DON in soft red winter wheat grown under Midatlantic growing conditions.

Approach:
Two soft red winter wheat varieties of contrasting susceptibility to FHB will be planted into no till corn residue. A split plot design, with 4 replicates of variety as the main plot and fungicide timing as the split plot will be used. FHB inoculum will be applied to heads at Feekes 10.5.1 to facilitate disease development. A subsample of 30 plants will be assessed for FHB severity at soft dough, approximately 21 days after inoculation. Plots will be harvested and yields determined. Subsamples of grain will be sent for DON analysis.
