Research Project: Contribution of Legacy Phosphorus to Watershed Outcomes Phase 3 - Stream Sediments - Fort Collins

Location: Soil Management and Sugarbeet Research

Project Number: 3012-12210-001-037-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2025
End Date: Sep 30, 2029

Objective:
Phosphorus is a major fertilizer nutrient and expense on farms. This project extends existing work by USDA ARS and NRCS to evaluate the distribution of legacy phosphorus in soils and sediments within Colorado's South Platte River CEAP Watershed. Results from this CEAP watershed will contribute to a national overview of legacy phosphorus in soils and sediments.

Approach:
Working with partners at Colorado State University, we will sample soils and sediments across the South Platte River CEAP Watershed. Samples will be submitted to a common laboratory. Information on land use and management will be used to interpret results.
