Research Project: Developing and Corroboration of Mycotoxin Models in Iowa

Location: Food and Feed Safety Research

Project Number: 6054-42000-027-012-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2025
End Date: Aug 29, 2028

Objective:
The Overall Goal of this agreement is to generate new predictive mycotoxin models for Iowa state, and to determine the relationship among corn-environment interactions, mycotoxin contamination levels, kernel quality traits, and plant phenology.

Approach:
Understanding the link among weather, kernel quality traits and corn phenology traits that are desirable for corn production then evaluating the correlation among those traits and aflatoxin contamination in different geographical corn-growing zones of Iowa will aid in preventing the presence of aflatoxin.
