Objective:
The objective is to partner with diagnostic clinic in the Department of Plant Pathology at Oregon State University to improve ability to serve stakeholders for assessing cultivars and advanced breeding lines for viruses. Key products that are anticipated from this work will be to provide diagnostic services to public and private breeders for advanced selections and develop quality control standards for diagnostic assays and improve capacity by improving thru put and sensitivity of methods.
Approach:
This effort is intended to leverage existing infrastructure and diagnostic expertise at Oregon State University to increase capacity and ability to meet stakeholder requests. It will enhance ARS ability to serve as Oregon branch of the National Clean Plant Network by serving as a conduit to expand diagnostic capacity. This collaboration will add capacity and enhance ability to address increasing demand. The university has extensive infrastructure for and experience processing samples for disease diagnosis which can be utilized to support development of breeding materials and advanced selections for breeders of small fruit crops. Key products that are anticipated from this work include improved diagnostic methods, quality control standards, and analytic tools.
