Research Project: Automated Analysis Pipeline for Phenotyping Cart Imagery

Location: Integrated Cropping Systems Research

Project Number: 3080-12620-006-006-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 27, 2022
End Date: Sep 5, 2022

Objective:
Cooperator will lead the development of software that compiles and summarizes imagery and other remotely sensed data from a high throughput phenotyping platform into highly accessible databases for further analysis. Cooperator and PI will develop robust data collection methods in conjunction with software development.

Approach:
Cooperator will develop an open-source computing workflow that loads, transforms, evaluates, and summarizes remotely sensed imagery and environmental data collected with a high throughput phenotyping platform using open source tools from the standard python and/or R data science stack. Transformation and evaluation will include: processing steps to ensure data integrity and georeferencing; and analysis steps to calculate plant health and environmental indices. All results will be included in an appropriate flat file storage, geodatabase, or other appropriate format approved by USDA-ARS and steps will be fully documented in an accessible and open format. Data collection methods will be revisited as the computing workflow is developed to facilitate automated analysis.
