Research Project: Increasing the Value of U.S. Soybean by Combining High Meal Protein, High Yield and Other Valuable Traits Utilizing Genetic Diversity, Breeding

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-070-008-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2022
End Date: Sep 30, 2023

Objective:
Develop varieties and breeding lines with >48% meal protein and competitive yields with commercial check varieties.

Approach:
Conventional and marker assisted breeding, genomics approaches will be used to achieve this objective. NIR technology will be used to measure protein, oil and amino acids. The 6k SNP chips will be used to map the genes/QTLs for mapping the protein genes in cultivated soybean.
