Research Project: Long-term Data Analyses on the Desatoya Mountains Project

Location: Great Basin Rangelands Research

Project Number: 2060-13610-003-045-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 1, 2022
End Date: Feb 28, 2023

Objective:
The cooperator will synthesize data sets of plant water use, soil moisture, snow depth, soil temperature and plant phenology from multiple locations to complete ecosystem level research on plant community dynamics. The ARS PI will provide datasets, lead manuscripts preparation, and advise on analytical techniques.

Approach:
This project will synthesize 10-year data sets of plant water use, soil moisture, snow depth, soil temperature and plant phenology from multiple locations with coexisting records of weather over that period. The cooperator and the ARS PI anticipate the following peer-reviewed papers to come from this project. i. Quantification of the amount of water pinyon and juniper use at the tree-level scale. ii. Long-term meadow phenology with different grazing intensities. Following publication, all data and modeling scripts will be uploaded to a data archive website for public access.
