Objective:
The ultimate goal of this project is to develop tepary bean genotypes adapted to dryland farming systems in the U.S.

Approach:
Objective 1. To evaluate the USDA tepary bean germplasm under dryland farming system. Specific Aim 1. To evaluate agronomic traits and yield of the USDA tepary bean germplasm under dryland conditions. Specific Aim 2. To test the efficiency of Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) for high-throughput phenotyping of drought stress in tepary bean. Objective 2. To develop genomic resources for adaptation to dryland conditions in tepary beans. Specific Aim 1. To conduct whole-genome re-sequencing of the USDA tepary bean. Specific Aim 2. To conduct genome-wide association for dryland adaptation traits in the USDA tepary bean. Specific Aim 3. To assess the accuracy of genomic selection in predicting dryland adaption traits in the USDA tepary bean.
