Research Project: Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment for Rangelands on the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests & Thunder Basin National Grassland

Location: Rangeland Resources & Systems Research

Project Number: 3012-12610-001-001-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jun 30, 2021
End Date: Dec 31, 2023

Objective:
Objective is to synthesize the scientific literature on the vulnerability of rangelands of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests & Thunder Basin National Grassland to changing climatic conditions (primarily temperature and precipitation).

Approach:
The climate change vulnerability assessment for rangelands of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests & Thunder Basin National Grassland will be developed through evaluation and synthesis of published literature relevant to rangeland ecosystems in the assessment area. Other available data and model output will be incorporated as appropriate and as time/effort allow. The assessment will consider different components of vulnerability, including exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. The chapter authors (for a Forest Service general technical report) will work closely with Forest Service managers and other partners to ensure that key information needs (related to climate change and rangelands) are addressed in the assessment, to the degree possible. The authors will allow ample time for review of assessment material by managers and partners prior to a science-manager workshop.
