Research Project: Energy Dissipation Evaluation of Stepped Chutes with Alternate Entrance Conditions and Step and Chute Geometry

Location: Agroclimate and Hydraulics Research Unit

Project Number: 3070-13000-014-006-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 19, 2021
End Date: Dec 31, 2022

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to evaluate stepped chute data with consideration of differing entrance conditions and step and chute geometry with the goal of disseminating the data and results to practitioners and researchers through journal publications.

Approach:
Data from physical modeling, advanced instrumentation at various geometric scales, and computational fluid dynamics will be compared. Data sharing and collaborative data evaluation to further develop new and/or enhanced design alternatives that account for varying entrance conditions and step and chute geometry. Data will be or has been obtained within the Utah Water Research Laboratory and the USDA-ARS Hydraulic Engineering Research at different scales.
