Research Project: Integrated Management of Wheat in Illinois

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-009-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jun 1, 2020
End Date: Nov 30, 2022

Objective:
The objectives of this research are: 1) test new fungicides available to wheat growers and develop best management protocols, 2) evaluate current fungicides for efficacy on FHB in wheat, 3) educate growers and processors on best management practices for producing high quality winter wheat in Illinois and 4) determine fungicide sensitivity in the Fusarium graminearum population.

Approach:
The researcher will conduct fungicide trials in Illinois to determine the best management strategies for wheat growers in this region. Growers will be educated on the best methods for producing high quality wheat through field days, workshops, meetings, newsletters and other media outlets. Lab experiments will be conducted to determine the base line sensitivity to fungicides in the Fusarium graminearum population.
