Objective:
The goal of this project is to increase the diversity of coffee genetic resources for the newly established repository in Hilo, HI. Specific objectives are to: 1) transfer seeds of inbreed coffee accessions, 2) transfer clonal coffee accessions, 3) prioritize additional accessions for transfer, and 4) discover new sources of important genetic material.
Approach:
Coffee germplasm of important commercial cultivars and coffee species and associated information will be transferred from HARC to PBARC in phases. First seed propagated coffee will be bagged prior to flowering to ensure self pollination. Upon harvest, the seeds will be cleaned and sent to PBARC. Clonally propagated material will be harvested and sent to Hilo to be grafted onto rootstock. Other important accessions will be evaluated and prioritized for collection from other sources.
