Research Project: Cultural Practices for Reducing Potato Virus Y in Seed Potato Crops

Location: Small Grains and Potato Germplasm Research

Project Number: 2050-21000-035-29-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 26, 2019
End Date: Mar 25, 2021

Objective:
Objectives are to study reduction of Potato virus Y (PVY) in seed potato crops treated with a mineral oil (crop oil). Cooperator will establish these field trials and any collaborative greenhouse trials.

Approach:
Reduction of PVY in seed potato crops will be done using field trials that incorporate the use of crop oil, insecticide and crop oil/insecticide treatments to reduce the amount of PVY infection that occurs during the growing season. Additional studies will be done with different PVY isolates in the greenhouse to determine PVY movement under different environmental conditions.
