Research Project: Scanning for New Evidence on the Nutrient Content of Human Milk: A Model for the Derivation of Age-Specific Nutrient Requirements

Location: Nutrition, Food Safety/Quality

Project Number: 0204-41510-001-086-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Aug 1, 2019
End Date: Nov 24, 2020

Objective:
Conduct a literature search and evidence scan of the peer-reviewed published literature on the nutrient content of human milk as an indicator of infant nutritional requirements. Use this as a model for revision of age-specific Dietary Reference Intakes.

Approach:
Convene an ad hoc committee to conduct a literature search and evidence scan of nutrient content of human milk in and extrapolate that to infant nutrient requirements. Hold a one-day meeting of experts to advise Federal agencies on triggers for age-specific revision of a DRI in the absence of a full review.
