Location: Plant Genetics Research
Project Number: 5070-21000-045-001-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Nov 1, 2018
End Date: Oct 31, 2023
Objective:
The overall objective of the current application is to use a systems level approach including 'omics' and flux analysis to pinpoint altered regulation in high oil producing lines of multiple oilseed species.
Approach:
'Multi-omic' data including: transcripts, metabolite profiling, proteomics, radioactivity assays, 13C-metabolic flux analysis and both kinetic and empirical modeling will be used to probe the changes in central and lipid metabolism that are responsible for production of significantly more oil in lines of soybean, camelina and Arabidopsis. The multiple 'omics' evaluations will be leveraged to find bottlenecks in metabolism. Kinetic models will mechanistically show at what 'omic' level the control of fatty acid biosynthesis for lipid production occurs in these seeds.
