Research Project: Conservation Planning and Interpretations: Mobile App Delivery

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 3050-11210-009-025-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2018
End Date: Sep 30, 2021

Objective:
To enhance LandPKS to provide soil interpretations/screening tools that support conservation planning and management. Provide easy and rapid access to Soil Survey information.

Approach:
The LandPKS app is composed of a number of input and output modules the core module is LandInfo, which currently facilitates description of soil profile properties (texture by depth, etc...) that, in a version available late 2018, will be used to automatically predict the most probable map unit component. This project will develop and implement enhancements to the app that will (a) provide general interpretive information (e.g. erosion risk under different vegetative cover) for that soil, (b) seamlessly link the user to existing information for that component, and (c) necessary inputs for existing screening tools. It will also provide additional contextual information, effectively serving as an educational tool for individuals with a limited understanding of soil survey. For example, the app will provide an understanding of soil map unit concepts at the moment the user needs to know this (i.e. when the list of map unit components is first presented.)
