Research Project: Development and Access of Geospatial Database

Location: Northwest Watershed Research Center

Project Number: 2052-13610-012-028-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2018
End Date: Sep 30, 2020

Objective:
Migrate existing geospatial resources related to Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed (RCEW) created by the Reynolds Creek Critical Zone Observatory (RC-CZO) to the Northwest Watershed Research Center (NWRC), USDA ARS in Boise, Idaho.

Approach:
(1) Initiate migration of existing geospatial resources created for Critical Zone Observatory (CZO) to Northwest Watershed Research Center (NWRC) stewardship, and re-brand accordingly. (2) Inventory all hard-copy maps on site in Boise and/or out on the Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed (RCEW), and begin ingesting these resources into the NWRC Geographic Information System (GIS). (3) Begin the process of organizing research data into a GIS format, generate metadata, and back-up as appropriate. Provide training and support as needed. (4) Begin compiling non-RCEW NWRC geospatial datasets for inclusion in databases and streaming services. (5) Create an assets/field instrumentation management GPS applet and associated database. Include historical records of management to ensure a comprehensive log of these activities. (6) Work with existing websites to provide richer content by imbedding data discovery maps and visualizations. Re-vamp all content as resources and regulations allow.
