Research Project: Development of a National Modeling Framework to Support the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP)

Location: Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory

Project Number: 3098-13610-008-069-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 1, 2018
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
Objective of this work is to compile data, develop methods, and generate software to develop a national scale HUC-12 SWAT model for USDA’s CEAP effort. The model will be to predict the impact of past and future conservation policy on sediment and nutrient loads in the U.S.

Approach:
A national SWAT model will be developed and calibrated using a variety of landuse, soils, climate and observed stream monitoring data. This SWAT model will be used in conjunction with a field scale model (APEX) to simulate a variety of cropland conservation related scenarios and their impact on in-stream water quality.
