Objective:
Foster international research collaborations on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases to advance diagnostics, treatment, prevention and to respond to public health emergencies.
Approach:
USDA/ARS supports global research on infectious diseases, immunology, allergy, and transplant science to better understand, diagnose, treat, and prevent related illnesses and conditions. Discoveries of scientists in the United States and around the world are helping to improve the health of millions of individuals, advance public health policy and clinical practice, protect the U.S. against infectious disease threats, and promote international wellbeing. Funds will be provided to explore opportunities with researchers and organizations in regions across the globe that focus on research specific to the needs of each region and country and are of interest to U.S. scientists. The work being done to diagnose, treat, prevent and cure diseases in these regions helps further the understanding and management of diseases in the U.S. by translating the research results into medical care and public-health improvements. CRDF Global will provide coordination and support for scientific consultations and conferences between U.S. scientists and international scientists. Additionally, CRDF Global will provide project support for U.S. and international scientists to facilitate the process of obtaining preliminary data on targeted collaborative research on emerging and re-emerging diseases with the goal of promoting collaborative research and the exchange and dissemination of scientific information.
