Research Project: Novel Edge-of-Field Practices for Nutrient and Pesticide Runoff Mitigation

Location: Water Quality and Ecology Research

Project Number: 6060-13660-008-13-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2017
End Date: Aug 31, 2022

Objective:
Vegetated edge-of-field ditches in agricultural settings can reduce runoff related contaminants. This agreement seeks to understand and measure efficiency of contaminant removal by vegetated ditches, ditches with biological filters, and vegetated ditches with biological filters. These biologically-focused experiments will help measure the positive effects of potential best management practices.

Approach:
Cooperators will assist on edge-of-field studies in controlled, experimental drainage systems to facilitate ARS efforts in improving the quality of runoff water from agriculture.
