Research Project: Board of Regents (Univ. of Nebraska) and the USDA-ARS Central Great Plain Research Stn. on Millet Research/Development

Location:

Project Number: 3010-12210-004-012-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2017
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
To facilitate collaborative research and development of millet cultivars and millet production research for the farmers in the Central Great Plains region. The purpose of this agreement is to advance collaborative ideas and objectives of the Participants as they relate to millet research and development, and enable each of the Participants to pursue collaborative research on the improvement and breeding of millets.

Approach:
The USDA ARS will provide cultivated dryland acres for the establishment of replicated millet cultivar testing trials. Individual experimental units will be of sufficient size to harvest with a plot combine. Minimum size of individual experimental unit (plot) will be 10 feet wide by 30 feet long. The experiments will be typical randomized complete block or in some cases incomplete block designs and replicated at least 4 times. ARS staff at Akron will keep the area weed free and help select a site each year that either follows a winter wheat crop or a dryland corn crop.
