Objective:
Developing EPIC input database using data from the Southern Great Plains’ Long Term Agroecological Research (LTAR) project site located within the USDA-ARS Grazinglands Research Laboratory and assist the principal investigator in interpreting the modeling results.
Approach:
The above-mentioned objective will be achieved by monitoring carbon fluxes and measuring crop characteristics during 2016-2017 and 2017-18 winter wheat growing season. This field study will be conducted in the Southern Great Plains Long Term Agricultural Research (LTAR) farm managed by the USDA-ARS Grazinglands Research Laboratory, El Reno, OK. A set of four eddy covariance systems will be used for this purpose. Data will be collected at 10 Hz and analyzed using eddypro software to develop hourly, daily, and seasonal carbon and water fluxes. The crop characteristics that will be measured include leaf area index, crop height, biomass and percent cover. These measurements will be made to coincide with Landsat 8 overpass over the study area.
