Research Project: Melon Powdery Mildew Race Variation in California

Location: Crop Improvement and Protection Research

Project Number: 2038-21530-002-003-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2017
End Date: Jun 30, 2019

Objective:
Develop a powerful and intrinsically reliable database on powdery mildew populations in the two main melon production areas of California. Characterize the pathogenic capacity of the mildew population in each area based on the reactions of a set of 11 melon powdery mildew race differential lines.

Approach:
Characterize in a comprehensive and rigorous manner the pathogenic nature of melon powdery mildew populations in the major melon growing areas of California, and identify exotic sources of host plant (genetic) resistance to contemporary California melon powdery mildew populations.
