Assist APHIS CPHST in identifying satisfactory insect pathogenic fungi and appropriate formulations for use in the management of the Asian citrus psyllid.
A) Assess and identify the fungal pathogens that are either commercially available yet never been tested on ACP, and those found to naturally attack ACP in LRGV. ARS will identify and obtain candidate fungi for screening by APHIS CPHST. B) Determine pathogen performance under laboratory conditions (i.e. virulence). ARS will design an appropriate bioassay to be conducted within the CPHST quarantine facility in Mission TX and train APHIS staff in the appropriate methodology. C) Document the efficiency of the pathogen in the production process (i.e. mass production and shelf-life). ARS will evaluate mass production potential and shelf-life of the candidate fungi at its facility in Sidney MT, using bench-scale counterpart to commercial methods, as a companion to efficacy determinations by APHIS. D) Determine the formulation that enables ease of application in the field and its field-life under LRGV conditions. ARS will evaluate different formulations, based on the ARS PI's experience, that would optimize practicality of application and provide formulated fungi to APHIS for field evaluation.
