Research Project: Identification of Signatures of Selection in Locally Adapted Goats

Location: Animal Genomics and Improvement Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-31000-001-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 29, 2017
End Date: Sep 30, 2019

Objective:
Analysis of African Goat Improvement Network (AGIN) genome sequence data for identification of genomic regions affecting adaptation. The regions will be identified using evidence of signatures of selection across genomes of selected regions.

Approach:
To identify signatures of selection, a composite of multiple signals (CMS) approach will be used on genotypic data derived from sampling of improved goats (data obtained through an existing ARS agreement with ADAPTmap) and indigenous goat breeds of Africa that are known to have resistance to diseases endemic to the region.
