Location: Soil Drainage Research
Project Number: 5080-13210-003-001-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: May 15, 2017
End Date: May 14, 2022
Objective:
Perform preliminary evaluation of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) mounted with visible (VIS), near infrared (NIR), and thermal infrared (TIR) photographic sensors for high resolution field mapping of drainage pipe locations and areas of poor soil drainage.
Approach:
Field sites in Ohio and Tennessee having known subsurface drainage systems present will be identified for testing of a UAV with VIS, NIR, and TIR sensors for mapping drainage pipe patterns and areas of poor soil drainage. The chosen sites are to include a range of soil types and field conditions. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is to be employed for confirmation of UAV survey results. Results from this project will be used as preliminary results for submission of grant proposals for the full project.
