Location: Small Grains and Potato Germplasm Research
Project Number: 2050-21000-035-14-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 1, 2017
End Date: Mar 31, 2022
Objective:
The objectives of this research are the exchange of potato germplasm and the development of mutually beneficial collaborative research projects with accompanying exchange of scientists between the Agricultural Research Service and the Industrial Crops Research Institute, Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Approach:
The USDA-ARS’s National Small Grains and Potato Germplasm Research Unit (USDA-ARS) is dedicated to research to enhance small grains and potato production and improve rainbow trout production efficiency by developing plant-based diets. Its Potato Breeding and Genetics program develops new potato varieties for the western U.S. potato industry with an emphasis on improved fresh and processing qualities, pest and pathogen resistance, and sustainability of production.
The Potato Research Center of the Industrial Crops Research Institute (ICRI), Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (YAAS) is a non-profit institution of research with focus on the preservation and utilization of potato germplasm resources, breeding of new potato varieties, and the development and demonstration of production management techniques for potato varieties.
USDA-ARS and ICRI-YAAS will conduct reciprocal exchange of potato germplasm as true potato seed families between their programs to further their research objectives. In addition, both institutions will work collaboratively to develop research projects that mutually benefit both, and would include the exchange and hosting of personnel from among the two institutions.
