Research Project: CucCAP: Leveraging Applied Genomics to Increase Disease Resistance in Cucurbit Crops

Location: Crop Improvement and Protection Research

Project Number: 2038-21530-002-011-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2015
End Date: Jun 30, 2020

Objective:
Utilize genomic approaches to map resistance loci for key cucurbit diseases, by development and verification of molecular markers for efficient trait selection and gene pyramiding, and introgression of disease resistances into advanced melon breeding lines.

Approach:
Evaluate recombinant inbred line populations (RIL) for plant and fruit traits, and host plant resistance reactions to cucurbit powdery mildew, Cucurbit yellow stunting disorder virus and Cucumber mosaic virus in naturally-infected field tests.
